All agreed it is a very well written, gorgeously descriptive coming of age tale about an 11 year old boy aboard a ship destined for England. It is almost autobiographical in tone which everybody seemed to enjoy and is rich with interesting character sketches.

There was a general consensus that it was a great book. People found it easy to read, entertaining and very informative about Hemingway's life. The last meeting of the VILLAGE BOOKS Book Club took place on the 9th of August and we discussed 'Sunset Park' by Paul Auster.

There was a general consensus that the book started well. The main character, Miles, was initially intriguing but interest was lost in the wordiness of the book which became too cerebral. It was enjoyed by most people but some had difficulty with the theme of war. The group felt that the book was extremely well written but they would be careful of who they'd recommend it to. Personally, I though it was an exceptional book with great insights into the trauma of war and how it affects the ordinary soldier.
